4 Travel Resolutions That You Must Make in 2017

New Year brings new things in life – A hope for better future, a chance to learn from last year’s mistakes and a new drive to work towards your dream. All this leads to New Year RESOLUTIONS! Every year we make resolutions, just to break those within a month.  Somehow I feel, that to pursue our dreams, we need to bring some small positive changes in our routine and what better time to implement those than 1st January.

Travel planning and travelling is my passion. It is something that I love doing when I get free time. Are there things that I want to change about my travels? As I reflect back to the year gone by, I feel that there are many things I would have done in a different way. I came up with a list of 15 things that I want to change about my travels and prioritized that list. If I start 15 new things in one day, I am sure I will not stick to any of these after a week. Hence I have kept my New Year resolutions to just 4 and I am sure that I will bring these changes in my lifestyle in 2017:

.

1. Build Travel Fund

Building a travel fund is my first priority for 2017. There are two ways of doing it – Save money or find new ways of making money.

Save Money – I took a pen and paper and noted down all fixed monthly expenses – House rent, loan payment, grocery, mobile phone bill etc. I also noted down my discretionary spending – Shopping, Movie tickets, drinks, brunches, junk food and so on. I analysed these expenses and highlighted the once that I can cut down on. Cut down on unwanted expenses and add that money to travel fund. This was the most difficult exercise, because every expense I make is a necessity (including shopping).

Find new ways to earn money – In a long run, I would prefer making more money than cutting down my expenses. How can I make more money? – Freelancing or earn money from my travel blog. I am still trying to figure out how I can earn money from my blog without compromising on reader’s experience.  If you have suggestions please share those in the comments.

2. Learn Travel Photography

Travel Photography is all about telling powerful stories. Photographs capture the culture, feelings, landscapes, history and the beauty of the place where you travel. I am a traveler, who loves to collect beautiful pictures as a souvenir of every trip. Improving my travel photography skills is my priority for 2017.

Watch some travel photography videos on YouTube, attend photography workshops by Nikon, checkout images on Nat Geo website and attend travel meet-ups to talk to like-minded people – That’s how I plan to improve my photography skills.

Praful recently gifted me a Nikon D3400. From next year, you can expect some amazing images on my blog.

3. Stay Fit And Eat Healthy

If you want to enjoy your travels then staying fit is the most important thing. I have already added various hiking and adventure sports activities in my 2017 travel plans. Since I have a hard time climbing hills, I plan to improve my diet and increase the length of my workouts to stay fit.

4. Try New Things

In 2016, my travelling was focused on food, shopping and understanding the day-to-day local life of people. This year, I am also going to try daunting things. From bungee jumping to waterfall rappelling, river rafting, diving and any other adventure sport. I am going to try at least 10-15 adventures that I have never done before. I want to move out of my comfort zone and let travelling teach me few more things. I am also going to talk to locals more often and make new friends while traveling.
